Description

Context unknown. The Publicity Department of the Laiyuan County Committee, Baoding, Hebei, disclosed on the 20th that a villager at Donglonghucun, Baishishan Town, discovered a large quantity of ancient coins while digging a well in their own courtyard. Identification determined the coins to be a hoard dating to the Warring-States-to-Qin-dynasty period -- the first find of coins of this period in Laiyuan. Experts from the Laiyuan county tourism and cultural-relics authorities state that the history of the Donglonghu Warring-States-and-Han-period site can be traced to the Eastern Zhou, and that the neighboring Zaoyuan site can be traced back to the Western Zhou; these are the two sites with the thickest cultural deposits, the longest span of use, and the richest variety of relics yet found in the county, together covering over 30,000 sq m. Coin-type identification here is based mainly on photographs. Discovered in 2012.
