Description
Context unknown. In September 1923 (Taishō 12), a student named Kabayama Suketaka, then enrolled at Naha Commercial School, dug at the Shiroyama Shell Mound together with three friends. They dug a pit about 4-5 shaku in diameter (about 1.2-1.5 m), down to a depth of about 2 shaku (about 60 cm), where they hit bedrock; the Ming Knife coin was then found in the pit's side wall, about 1 shaku (about 30 cm) below the surface. The original article further notes that several stone arrowheads and over a dozen small stone jade-like objects were also found at the same dig spot, but by the time Hashimoto Masukichi wrote his article these associated finds had "all been scattered and lost," making further contextual study impossible. Discovered in 1923.
