Context unknown. Preservation: one seal impression; fineness: 70%. [Site background:] Xinjian Village east of Gucheng Town; a provincial-level protected cultural-relics site; Spring-and-Autumn period. According to the Song-dynasty Jingding Jiankang Gazetteer, "the old city of Gu was built by the King of Wu in the Spring-and-Autumn period." The city plan is rectangular, with an inner and an outer wall: the inner city is about 200 m east-west and 120 m north-south, the outer city about 1,000 m east-west and 800 m north-south, totaling about 800,000 sq m in area. Geometric stamped pottery and proto-porcelain sherds have been found within and around Gucheng over the years, and Chu Ying Yuan money and pottery sherds have been found in the southern part of the outer city; the discovery year is not recorded in the source (Fifty Years of Jiangsu Archaeology, Nanjing Publishing House, 2000 edition). This entry is a general account of the Gucheng site as a whole, and may record the same broad area as this table's "Gaochun Chengzhen" entry (1954, 15.31 g) from a different source.
