Description
Context unknown. On April 20, 2007, four children picked up gold pieces beside a fishpond at a borrow pit for the Xinchang Railway, in Group 1, Youyi Village, Liuzhuang Town (one piece was initially lost and later recovered); more pieces were subsequently collected from villagers, totaling 21 pieces weighing 175.1 g, designated a first-class national cultural relic. Scholars have proposed three hypotheses for the pieces' original function -- ritual offering, tomb goods, or hoard -- with the source's analysis favoring a ritual offering as most likely. Data cited from Wu Xinghan's "Statistical Table of Chu Gold Coin Finds," Anhui Museum. This entry's findspot overlaps heavily with this table's "Youyicun" entry (Youyicun lies within Liuzhuang Town), with the same count of 21 pieces -- very likely the same event recorded separately in two different sources. Both entries are provisionally kept without merging.
